Where Do Pets Go After They Die?

This question is fairly common among pet owners.

Humans have always been skeptical of the afterlife, and even though many of us believe that there may be a heaven or hell for humans, we are uncertain of the place that pets go to after they die.

According to spirit-teacher Joseph, author of glz.org, he explains that pets go to heaven after they die.

Since we are part of the same consciousness, all the earthly things come together after they cease to exist in the material world.

That’s what is popularly known as ‘the other side.’

As per popular mediums and psychics, initially, when a pet dies, it passes through the same tunnel or the rainbow bridge that all of the earthly consciousness does.

They are then received by their ancestors and their loved ones on the other side, where they joyfully wait and protect all of their beloveds who are still in this 3-dimensional world.

The best thing that pet owners can do after their pet dies is either bury them at a place where they loved to play or scatter their remains at the same place after they are cremated.

This act brings the soul of the pet much happiness and peace.

Below are meanings of some popular deceased pet dreams that you may have:

Barking/Meowing: Dogs or cats generally make noises when they need attention or need to warn you about something dangerous.

When you dream of a deceased pet barking/meowing in the dream, it signifies danger.

They come bearing news of something dangerous in life that you may not seem to notice.

It may be related to your health, family, friends, or even about an accident that is about to occur if you aren’t careful enough.

Needless to say, after a pet dies, they are still around to protect you and love you in ways that we cannot even imagine.

Appearing in dreams is one of them.

Playing: A deceased pet playing around in the dream is an auspicious sign.

It is a clear indication that they are in heaven and are blissful.

Hence, they continue to do what they are supposed to do peacefully, which is to be more playful and less serious.

It may, in fact, also point towards you needing a break from the everyday hustles of life.

Sleeping: According to Psychology Today, deceased pets try and relay feelings via telepathy when they appear in your dreams.

Hence, pay attention to the way you feel when you see your dead pet sleeping in the dream.

Do you feel peaceful, or restless, or even happy?

The feeling that you go through when you watch the deceased pet sleep in your dream coincides with the way you feel in your waking life.

On the contrary, they may even be trying to relay the message that they are peaceful wherever they are, but they want to remind you to take ample rest so that you are hearty and healthy too.

Eating: As faithful as pets are, they are also an embodiment of their masters.

If your deceased pet visits you in your dream and asks you for food, it is symbolic that you need to gain more energy or momentum in real life.

In case they eat their food peacefully, it indicates that you need to pay attention to your health and give yourself more time in order to rejuvenate.

Walking with You: This can be the most healing dream you can get of a deceased pet.

When a pet who has passed away walks with you or even behind you in your dream, it indicates that they are with you always.

They are protecting you just as they did when they were alive.

Chasing/Running: A dream analyst, Lauri Quinn Loewenberg, mentions that seeing a pet chasing you or someone else, or even just running around pointlessly, means that there is something in your waking life that you are angry or feel powerless about.

It is a way in which our subconscious reminds us to stop running or being threatened by that situation and face it head-on.

Injured Pet: Dreaming of an injured pet, according to The Dream Interpretation Dictionary, means that you are worried about someone’s health in your waking life.

It may be about the health of your family, kids, friends, other pets, or even about yourself.

It is a sign that you should pay attention to unhealthy habits that you may have or even of a loved one.

In case the injured pet has already passed, it may also mean that they are hurt by your grief over them and want you to be happy so that they can be at peace.

Dog/Cat Bite: It isn’t the biting of the pet that matters when it happens in your dreams.

It is the place where they bite.

DeBord, another dream analyst mentions, that when a deceased pet bites your wrist in your dreams, they are trying to warn you of your undying loyalty to someone who is holding you back from achieving something you want.

A bite on the leg means they want you to be more balanced, a bite on the hand indicates someone you love means harm to you, and a soft bite signifies that you are being guided and are on the right path.

Healing From the Trauma Of Losing A Pet

One day they are playing around, eating their food, being affectionate and loving, and suddenly, they get sick and die.

The very thought of losing a pet who is always around can be deeply traumatizing. But we need to remember that the biggest gift to the dead isn’t grief.

It is gratitude.

Grieving is a part of the healing process when a pet passes away because it is essentially like losing a part of you.

Yet, we should always remember to be grateful for them being there for us, no matter what.

Some tips that can help you heal from the trauma of a deceased pet are:

1. Trust the Grieving Process

It is OKAY to grieve and cry when you lose a loving and kind pet.

Scientific research shows that certain traditions that are held when we lose a loved one are actually to initiate the grieving process.

At times, the person who loses the pet may be in denial about their passing.

That’s why it is important to cremate or bury the animals so that they can be a part of the earth again.

This process also initiates grieving because it makes us believe and accept that we are no longer a part of the 3-dimensional world.

Hence, we should trust this process and grieve so that we can heal from the trauma.

2. Be Thankful

The best part of raising a pet is always having someone around.

They never leave the ones who love them unconditionally, and this holds true for any creature from the animal kingdom.

It really helps to just thank them for being a part of your world and for making it better in so many ways.

Gratitude is one of the best ways to heal from any kind of trauma and affirms the fact that everything happens for a reason, and we just need to be thankful that it happened.

3. Do Not Blame Yourself

Death is inevitable, and it happens to everyone and everything.

While many believe that death isn’t the end because matter can neither be created nor destroyed, it is pointless to blame yourself for the death of your pet.

You should know that there is nothing that you could’ve done to stop it.

4. Organize A Joyful Memorial

Memories are all that we are left with of the deceased pet after they cross the shiny rainbow bridge.

The initial idea of a memorial, when it first began, was to celebrate the life that the deceased person had.

Pets bring a lot of joy and love when they are alive and, hence, leave behind a plethora of beautiful memories.

Share them with those around you by organizing a joyful memorial and bidding the deceased little pet a happy goodbye.

5. Honor Their Message

Pay attention to your dreams soon after your pet has passed away.

They may have some insightful news or messages from the other side.

Honoring their message can also heal you as it tells you that they are still around, loving, and watching you.

Final Words

Nobody is certain as to what actually happens after death; however, we know that it is traumatic to the one who loses the pet.

While science hasn’t yet realized the importance of dreams and the afterlife, many psychologists and psychics know that dreaming of a deceased pet holds a specific meaning, even if it is a result of your subconscious.

We conclude by stating that, yes, deceased pets visit you in your dreams.

Simply analyzing how you feel when they visit you is enough to interpret the message, they are trying to send to you.

  1. My first dog I ever had passed away 6 months ago. She was a black Labrador who was almost 15 years old which is old for a dog and I must say she lived a good, long life. A few nights ago I had a random dream about her. I was walking to the store & she was following behind me. Once I came out of the store she was outside waiting for me & a stranger approached her wondering who dog she was for & I told “she’s mine.” The lady asked me a few questions about her & I told her she’s 15 years old and she’s not able to get around like she used to. Shortly after that I woke up. It was a visitation dream of her letting me know she’s ok & she’s always with me. I came to this website because I am still grieving her lost and I definitely needed reassurance.

  2. My Charlie died this past Sunday morning. I knew he was sick and old but was in denial and was wishing that he would get better. Before I woke up, I had a very vivid dream of him coming into my room and standing on his back paws looking happy and healthy at my bedside. I said, oh my goodness Charlie, you are doing so much better, I am so happy. The moment I went to pet his head, my eyes opened and I immediately heard him make a sound. I ran into the living room where he was lying in his bed and I saw and heard him take his last breath.
I truly believe that when he passed he immediately came to me in my dream to let me know that he was ok and was not in any pain. He appeared to be happy. I will always love my Charlie and now I know he is still with me in my heart.
Also today, two days later when I woke up to get ready for work, I really thought that I smelled him in his favorite room, the laundry room.
